According to reports, one in five adults live with a mental disability in the United States. And this represents twenty-one percent of all U.S. adults. However, when it comes to finding a job, the statistics for intellectually disabled people who are employed are unfavorable. That is why most non-profit organization in Houston, Texas, prioritizes offering employment assistance to intellectually disabled people.

Providing employment assistance to individuals with intellectual disabilities is what we prioritize here at Stepping Stones Achievement Center, Inc. We train them to develop and improve their independence by providing positive social interaction, life skills guidance, educational reinforcement, healthy physical activities, fun, engaging programs, community involvement, and employment training and assistance. We also ensure they find a job that best suits them. Here are some jobs that are perfect for intellectually disabled people:

  • Being an art therapist and retail jobs with tasks such as stocking shelves, assisting customers, or operating cash registers
  • Animal-assisted therapy and jobs that involve packaging and assembly

Our non-profit organization in Houston, Texas, offers personalized outpatient programs in Texas that empower developmentally disabled participants – “steppers” – to grow and thrive in a nurturing environment. Our Individual Skills & Socialization Services (ISS) are available for adults 18 and older. Our center’s aftercare program is a leisure extension for steppers in the day program and also accepts high schoolers ages 16 and up and adults of all ages.
